3 Questions with Rudolph Psaila, Chairman of FinanceMalta

FinanceMalta brings financial firms together to exchange ideas, identify new opportunities, increase visibility, and much more.

Who can become a FinanceMalta member?

Our members are our most-important asset and represent the many different segments of our financial centre. Membership is open to entities operating within the financial services and legal industry, but also to firms contributing to the growth that Malta’s financial services industry is experiencing. In other words: you don’t need to be directly involved in the financial services industry. While the core of our membership base consists of asset managers, insurers, banks, law firms, fintechs, and the like, we also welcome recruiters, training providers, real estate agencies and others, to join our organisation.

What are the benefits of being a FinanceMalta member?

We are a vibrant and active community of some 200 firms, and FinanceMalta actively facilitates connections between its members. Members can connect in-person at our networking events or make one-on-one member contact via our online directory.

Being a FinanceMalta member also supports companies’ efforts to keep up to date on latest trends and developments in the financial services industry. We organise webinars, seminars as well as an annual conference, while members can also attend partner seminars, training and workshops on a wide range of specialist subjects at heavily discounted rates; some events are complimentary and include CPE hours. In addition, we offer our members the opportunity to publish white papers and articles on our website, contribute articles to the quarterly FinanceMalta Insight newsletter and speak at international events in order to showcase their firm and raise their profile locally and internationally. A relatively new initiative is that we offer our members free podcast recording sessions. In 2021, we launched #FinTalks, a video-podcast initiative hosted by FinanceMalta, with the objective of giving visibility to our members, offer thought leadership and industry updates, promoting the jurisdiction and ultimately attracting FDI in financial services to Malta.

Joining FinanceMalta means companies become part of a large-scale collaboration that aims to promote and strengthen our finance centre. We look forward to welcoming many more companies to FinanceMalta in the months and years ahead.

What can you tell us about FinanceMalta’s plans for 2022?

2022 is an important year for us. FinanceMalta was established in 2008, and this year we celebrate our 15th anniversary. We definitely want to celebrate this milestone with our members and are currently planning a number of activities. We also want to build on what has worked well thus far. We will retain the #FinTalks podcast series to provide members with visibility, regulatory updates and industry insight. We will also continue hosting sectorial-specific events. We started this event series at the end of last year when we invited the insurance industry to discuss and debate the current challenges and opportunities. The next event is already planned and targets our fintech community. Internationalisation will remain a priority, and we want to intensify the collaboration with the World Alliance of International Financial Centres (WAIFC). While we are currently finalising our own action plan, FinanceMalta is also open to suggestions. We are currently in the process of meeting industry players to define a detailed business development strategy and gather additional ideas on promotional actions that we can implement during 2022.
