FM attends WAIFC annual general meeting
by FinanceMalta
19th December 2023
The Alliance has just marked its fifth anniversary, and now has 19 members – 11 of which were founding members.
The AGM was informed that the WAIFC intends to extend its reach into the US, which represents a quarter of the world’s economy. The Alliance already has sufficient cover in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, with some representation from Asia.
An update was also given on ongoing projects, such as the FinTech initiative which is being promoted through webinars, Greening the Supply Chains – the White Paper for which should be published early in 2024 – and Women in Finance, which promotes gender diversity in finance. FinanceMalta has already signed the relevant pledge for the latter. A new project being discussed is Art and Financial Centres.
FinanceMalta was also involved in the inaugural Young Academic Award, arranging for Prof. Joseph Falzon (University of Malta) to sit on the jury. WAIFC received 53 research submissions from 17 countries.
During the AGM, FinanceMalta invited the WAIFC Board to a meeting in Malta in 2025.
