BANK OF VALLETTA HOSTING FINAL CUSTOMER OUTREACH EVENT IN SLIEMA

February 14, 2025

MPO Mini Concert & Restoration of Giuseppe Calì’s Masterpiece Announced

Bank of Valletta (BOV) is set to conclude its successful Customer Outreach series with an engaging finale in the Parish Church of Sacro Cuor, Sliema on Monday, 24th February 2025. The event will feature a mini concert by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) string quartet and the launch of an ambitious restoration project dedicated to safeguarding Malta’s artistic heritage.

BOV’s commitment to cultural preservation takes centre stage with the official launch of the restoration of The Triumph of the Immaculate Conception, a 19th-century masterpiece by Giuseppe Calì located in the Parish Church of Sacro Cuor, Sliema. This significant project will be led by PrevArti Co. Ltd under the expertise of senior conservator Pierre Bugeja, ensuring the artwork is meticulously conserved for future generations.

Ernest Agius, Chief Operations Officer at Bank of Valletta, remarked,
“Our outreach events have reinforced our close connection with the communities we serve. By supporting the restoration of this historic artwork, we reaffirm our dedication not just to financial services but to the cultural and artistic heritage that defines Malta.”

A Masterpiece in Need of Restoration
Painted in 1892, The Triumph of the Immaculate Conception is an oil-on-stone mural within the choir’s apsidal cap. The composition, rich in symbolism, depicts Madonna on a crescent, surrounded by a choir of angels, Pope Leo XIII, and Saint Francis. Over the decades, water damage, surface dirt, cracks, and pigment instability have affected the painting’s integrity, necessitating professional conservation.

A Commitment to Heritage & Excellence
As part of BOV’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, this event marks the culmination of a series of outreach initiatives that have brought customers and communities together. The Bank extends its heartfelt gratitude to the CSR team, whose unwavering efforts have made these events a success.

The Sliema event promises to be a celebration of culture, music, and restoration, a fitting tribute to BOV’s legacy of excellence, sustainability, and community engagement. Members of the public are invited to attend. The event is free of charge.
