The Fostering FinTech in Malta live webinar will take place on the 8th of February 2022 at 3 pm (CET).
The event will explore the Maltese FinTech ecosystem and will provide information on how Fintech operations can settle in Malta, as well as the challenges and opportunities offered by the jurisdiction. The webinar will also provide an EU and international perspective and will include a discussion on the future of FinTech in Malta and its role in the development of the industry. A Q&A session will follow, to give attendees the opportunity to interact with the panellists.Moderated by Dr. Ian Gauci, Managing Partner, GTG Advocates, the webinar will feature the following panellists: Lucas Maliczak (Head of Development, RiskDeck), James Camilleri (Co-Founder & CEO, Fyorin), Dimitris Litsikakis (CEO, deVere E-Money), Herman Ciappara (Head, Fintech Supervision, MFSA).

- Ian Gauci (Moderator) - Managing Partner, GTG Advocates - Dr. Ian Gauci is the Managing Partner of GTG Advocates and Afilexion Alliance. He advises multiple government bodies and operators on various laws and issues, ranging from consumer, competition, data protection, telecommunications, fintech, cryptos, and blockchain laws. He was also the legal expert of Malta’s National Blockchain Taskforce and one of the co-authors of the Laws in Malta.Dr. Gauci is recognized by Lexology as the foremost Technology Lawyer and is ranked as Band 1 lawyer in the Chambers and Partners Fintech Rankings. Dr. Gauci is also ranked as a Tier 1 lawyer in the Fintech sector by Legal 500. Dr. Gauci lectures Legal Futures & Technology Law, Communications Law, and the Masters in Blockchain at the University of Malta. He is also an examiner on Masters and Doctoral dissertations in FinTech, RegTech, Data Protection, and ICT.
- Lucas Maliczak - Head of Development, RiskDeck - Lucas helped launch RiskDeck from its debut in 2020 and is now Executive Director. He is in charge of the company’s strategy and overviews the operations and business development. Lucas has experience in growth marketing, is the founder of a wine commerce business, and works as a consultant in a growth agency.
- Herman Ciappara - Head, Fintech Supervision, Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) - Herman Ciappara was joined the MFSA in September 2019 and holds the position of Head FinTech Supervision. The FinTech Supervision function, within the Supervision Directorate, provides cross-sectoral expertise on digital finance and FinTech related regulatory and supervisory initiatives. The Function is responsible for the supervision of the Virtual Financial Assets sector under the VFA Framework in Malta, the development and implementation of the MFSA FinTech initiatives, the operationalisation of the Regulatory Sandbox as well as the coordination of the implementation of the Digital Finance Package within the MFSA. Herman started his 30-year long career at the Central Bank of Malta in 1989, holding several managerial positions within a number of functions at the Bank, amongst them, Information Technology, Operational Risk, Business Continuity, and Information Security. Since 2011 he has held the position of Head of Payments & Banking Department.
- Dimitris Litsikakis - CEO, deVere E-Money - Dimitris Litsikakis holds a BSc in Information Technology from Piraeus University and an MSc in Project Management from Lancaster University. He worked at IBM UK as a Project Manager delivering large scale IT projects. He then joined Edenred Greece as Digital Transformation Manager where he led the entire digitalization of the company’s solution offering, issuing hundreds of thousands of prepaid cards to beneficiaries.In 2018 he was appointed Country Manager Greece, Cyprus & Malta for Revolut, the fastest growing FinTech in Europe with a $1.7B valuation, delivering 400% client growth. He’s now spearheading the digital transformation of deVere Group, a financial consultancy with a global presence with more than $10B assets under management, delivering cutting edge FinTech solutions. Since 2014, he also acts as Athens Chapter Director for Startup Grind, the largest independent startup community, actively educating, inspiring, and connecting entrepreneurs.
