For those who don’t know Elephant Tree Capital, can you provide some background on the company?

Elephant Tree Capital is an international discretionary investment firm headquartered in Valletta, Malta. The company has offices in both South Africa and Malta and was founded by William Abraham and Derik Prinsloo.

Can you share a little-known fact about your company?

Our company takes its name from a plant called the Elephant Tree. The plant can grow in very wet conditions and in deserts, depending on the environment. This symbolises the adaptability which we as investment firm want to provide to our clients in ever changing economic landscapes.

What are you currently working on and what are your company’s plans and strategic priorities for the coming years?

We would like to expand the business further into Europe and at the same time open additional offices in South Africa. We are also looking into opportunities to partner up with other industry players to provide a greater variety of services to our clients.

Are there any projects/achievements of your company that you are exceptionally proud of?

Our percentage of clients falling into the category of high-net-worth individuals is growing year on year, placing the focus on our various offerings. By tailoring investments to different risk objectives and appetites, we can cater for clients with different risk profiles and by doing so we are achieving risk-adjusted returns that they are comfortable with.

What in your opinion makes Malta an effective jurisdiction to set up a business?

Malta is business-friendly country where the main business language is English. It makes it ideal for international investors the world over. Being part of the European Union, it also offers companies the opportunity to expand into other countries in the EU.

What kind of people/companies in the financial services community would you want to connect with?

We’d like to connect with people and companies who see opportunities in Malta, as well as in emerging markets. We are a Maltese company with a South African flavour.
